Not sure about how to get started? Me neither. Beyond the basic guidelines I've outlined in the "About" page, the only absolute commandments I know to follow are, stick with the story that's posted, add your contribution as a comment, and be sure to click the "Submit Comment" button to add your entry to the main blog.
In the meantime, though, if you'd like to check out some outside sources for practical tips, take a look at these sites. And please feel free to post any suggestions! I'll gladly add them to our collaborative library.
1. Pan Theater Rules of Improv
The Pan Theater web site is chock full of valuable information, so make this your first stop on the site and have fun while you're there. Their materials are written for theatrical improv, but are (mostly) applicable to the written form as well.

2. Improv Encyclopedia's 11 Commandments of Improv
A very concise set of improv rules here, similar to Pan's but a lot shorter.

3. Wikipedia's Definition of Collaborative Fiction and General Guidelines
This is a decent overviiew of the format and some basic guidelines more specific to the writing process.
